Panel Lighting

Cockpit panel lighting is via a combination of stalk lighting, integrated instrument lighting, panel backlighting and indicator lights as illustrated below. Indicator Lights are discussed in more detail here.

Lighting System Controls

Exterior Lights

Exterior lights are controlled with circuit-breaker style switches on the right side of the overhead panel. When a switch is moved to ON, it will illuminate. The retractable landing lights; however, are not activated via an illuminated switch, but rather with a 3-way switch, also on the overhead panel. The three positions are: OFF | EXTENDED | ON. Moving the switch to the EXTENDED position will cause the landing lights to extend, but they will not illuminate. Extension takes roughly 10 seconds. Moving the switch to ON will cause the lights to illuminate after they are fully extended.

Cabin Lights

Cabin flood lighting may be controlled from two locations. 1) a toggle-button mounted on the electronics cabinet just aft of the cabin door and 2) a button-toggle mounted on the very aft end of the main fuse panel behind the pilot. Cabin reading lighting may be controlled via toggle-buttons mounted adjacent to the reading lights above each seat.

Cockpit Lights

Cockpit panel lighting may be controlled via 6 rheostat knobs on the overhead panel. Each knob controls lighting on a specific region on the panel, i.e. Pilot Panel, Engine Instruments, Overhead Panel, etc.

On the aft end of the overhead panel is a three-position switch to control the two cockpit flood lights or the single map light. A dimmer next to the switch can be used to set the brightness of the map light.
